The Saracen’s Head
Temple Gate

At the entrance to Pile Street (now Redcliffe Way) the inn was early seventeenth century in origin and it’s name was a reference to the Moslems who fought the Christians during the Crusades. In friendly rivalry the pub across the road was named the George Inn after St.George the patron saint of England.
